In an era when "penpal" looks like a misspelling of paypal, I wonder how many of you still write letters and send actual postcards? Am I alone in this business with Anoya, de-la-montagne, and Durochka?
I've been a member of postcrossing.com for almost 2 years, sending and getting postcards from random strangers all over the world. But recently I felt like writing more than what a 4x6" card can fit. So I got myself some nice stationary, wrote to the few people I know who still love letters and now I'm waiting to read back from them. I have to admit, it's a little frustrating! I need more people to write to on different days, so that I maybe get one or two letters back every week.
So would anyone else be interested? Let me know!
Also, please don't share any personal information publicly and please don't send it to me in a note unless you trust me!
- Watching: Damages, season 4
I used to write letters and send cards but no one ever sent any back . that website looks interesting though .
Aww, that's sad!
I write to a couple of friends and usually they respond, even if late sometimes!
When we were moving, I found the postcode you sent me. It made me smile a lot
You mean the postcard?
I'm actually pretty surprised anyone still does that. I was interested in penpals a while back, but couldn't find anything about it. I think I'll check out that website. As for wanting to send more than just a postcard, I'd be interested. I love getting handwritten letters from anybody. I think it's something that's been lost in todays world of technology. Everyone just sends out e cards for holidays, or a quick email that just isn't very personal if you ask me.
I used to have, now I only write postcards from holidays and x-mas cards
Well, at least you do that! Most people don't even send them on holidays!
So many mentions
I still write postcards quite regularly. You have my address.. Let loose the pen and paper!
I'll have to find it again! It's written down somewhere! Or I'll have to look through the old postcard boxes, see if I have a return address on your card.
I would be!!!
That actually sound pretty awesome! I wouldn't mind being penpals.
That's going to be a little more difficult, because I don't know the first things about you, but feel free to write me and I'll return your letters!
Definitely! I'll even write slowly so that my horrible handwriting becomes legible. XD
Otherwise it will be difficult to read, but I've taken the time in the past to decypher other people's cards and letters!
I don't plan on partaking in this sort of thing, but I like the idea of getting mail from different people from different parts of the world. And I'm certain plenty of others will get in on this.
Yeah, it certainly isn't for everyone, it requires time and money and inspiration!
I don't write often, but still do. I have 2 good penpals since my secondary school, also i love to sent postcards to people I meet online, but talk a lot with.
Ah, yes! I love sending cards too, but I often don't have much new things to tell them, so I usually just send holiday cards!
Hah, also a lot of my friends know of my dyslexia and they just want me to write to them without any dictionares, because my mistakes are so funny in a cute way to them
I used to have some penpals, but I lost touch with them over the years.
Yeah, happened to me as well, unfortunately! But there's always possibility to renew the ties or make new penpals!
There is, I wonder where those old letters are? Cause I'm sure I kept them in a safe place, but I've moved so many times since then that I'm not sure if they survived. I know one of them was a relative of mine that I used to be close friends with, and some old classmates. But other than that I can't remember much.
Ah, I also need to find my very first box of letters! Other than that, I know where my most recent postcards are!
I recently wrote two letters to a penpal I had back in 2005/2006. Contacted her on Facebook and she agreed to catch up, so now I'm waiting to hear back from her!
I actually still write letters and like it^^
Awesome! Who do you write them to?
Haven't had a pen pal since school when we had a spanish one I have a friend who writes to about 6 or seven people even though she has them on Facebook now, she knows them form when they were just pen pals. The problem I would have is fining the time to write I think, at least on a regular basis anyway
Yep, I used to write to a girl I once met in a youth camp near Moscow. She was from Latvia, I was in Moldova, and it would usually take 7 days for our letters to reach the other end. I wasn't really on the internet much at the time, didn't even have a computer at home. Then, after over a year, maybe, or two, I stopped writing, not sure why, and I regret it. I found her on Facebook last year, but didn't have the habit to talk to her over social networks, so over a week ago we agreed to write to each other again. Still waiting for a return letter from her.
And I sometimes write to ^Anoya and ~de-la-montagne, even though I chat with the latter every day on Facebook. It's just nice to write some nice words on paper. If I have trouble deciding what to write, because I already told them everything on chats, I'd rather stop chatting and keep an epistolary relation — I find it so much nicer!
And I also love to send everyone Christmas cards. I must sound like such a grandma!
